Candlebark Adventure Tracks

Candlebark Park Tracks
Candlebark Park hosts 1.6 km of the Main Yarra Trail, a multipurpose recreational trail that follows the Yarra River for 38 km to Southbank. In this park however are nearly 6km of natural terrain adventure tracks that are popular with cyclists, walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and families who enjoy the Australian bush and a natural setting.

The trail network is an eclectic collection of adventure trail experiences, each with a special attributes. Being natural terrain, the character of each trail changes and evolves with the seasons and continues to deliver someting new to even the most seasoned adventurer time and time again.

Homestead
Name Candlebark Homestead
Description Length 780m. Near the site of the old homestead, this trail follows the river and a peaceul alternative to the Main Yarra Trail.
Open & Tight
Name Candlebark Prologue
Description Length 550m. A recent addition to the trail network that crosses the dam spillway, opens up to a wide straight trail only to turn around and wind through tight trees.
Twist and Climb
Name Candlebark Lower Switchbacks
Description Length 250m. Tight turns and steep undulating surface makes this trail one of the more challenging sections. Fantastic for cyclists to hone slow speed balance skills. Make way for cyclists coming down and there's no shame in walking up or down. Length
Big Brown
Name Candlebark Big Brown
Description Length 470m. A recent trail that offers an extended alternative from the top of twist and climb trail to the upper power line trail. Named after a big brown snake that often hangs around the tight U-turn at the northern end.
Lower Powerline
Name Candlebark Hans
Description Length 1.2km. Winding its way through the plantation there are plenty of tight turns and trees not much wider than bicycle handlebars.
George's Sensitive Bits 1
Name Candlebark GSB1 (George's Sensitive Bits) or The Bone Yard
Description Length 520m. The first of two sections of George's Sensitive Bits trail created to divert trail users away from an environmentally sensitive area to the south east that contains one of the last known stands of the threatened Matted Flax Lily [Dianella amoena]. This section of GSB links the end of Hans track with the top corner of the management track.
George's Sensitive Bits 3
Name Candlebark GSB2 (George's Sensitive Bits)
Description Length 300m. The second section of George's Sensitive Bits trail created to divert trail users away from an environmentally sensitive area to the south east that contains one of the last known stands of the threatened Matted Flax Lily [Dianella amoena]. This section of trail links the top of the management road with the lower dam at the base of the upper switchbacks.
The Switchbacks
Name Candlebark Upper Switchbacks
Description Length 550m. This trail delivers great views of the valley as it winds its way up the hillside to the top of the Petty's Orchard access road. Tight turns but with plenty of straight lengths to catch the breath.
Orchard
Name Candlebark Leaky Dam
Description Length 320m. From the top of Petty's orchard access road to the bottom of the hill. This drops down the side of the hill to a pesky leaking dam and then back to the access road.
Dam Diversion Track
Name Candlebark DDT (Dam Diversion Track)
Description Length 375m. The Dam Diversion Track was created to lead the trail user away from the leaking dam and up to the eastern side of the valley.
Rocky Chute
Name Candlebark Rocky Chute
Description Length 310m. Open trail from under the high voltage power lines that runs parallel to the management road and then winds down to follow track follows the fence line down to a short and loose rocky section.
Rocky Chute
Name Candlebark Eastern Slog
Description Length 500m. On the eastern side of Candlebark, this trail climbs and then descends the ridge. Rocky on the west and smooth on the east. It's a slog either way.
Diggings
Name Candlebark Diggings
Description Length 390m. Linking the management road with the base of twist and climb trail, this straight section runs though old digging works at the eastern end.
